I am a child of the sun, or at least that’s what my dad always tells me. My father is very suspicious, so when I was born with a sun shaped birthmark on my lower back the name just seemed to fit. My name is Sabryna; I live with my father in a small city named Leafera, which resides on one of the five large islands inside of the Bermuda triangle. Outsiders rarely visit the island because of the…
“Sabryna, breakfast is ready.” My father yelled from down the hall momentarily making me forget what I was writing,
“Coming” I responded nonchalantly. I signed of my diary intending to finish it later and walked to the kitchen where I could already smell the sweet meaty aroma of freshly fried bacon

and the invocative scents of chocolate pancakes from down the hall. As I entered the room I was surprised to see that my father was dressed somewhat strangely.
“Dad what’s going on?  Looks like you’re trying to be a fisherman.” I stated amusingly
“Well I'm glad you noticed because I wanted to talk to you about that, I was thinking about taking the fisherman job. It will bring a lot of money into the house.” He replied hesitantly.
“You can’t the fishermen never come back. They all get lost to sea once they leave the triangle. The storm tears there ships to pieces and …” I interrupted
“Sabryna its not gonna be like that, I only plan to fish inside the triangle. It’s going to be safe!"
“No dad it’s not going to be safe, you’re going to have to leave the triangle. There is a fish shortage, there are no fish left in the triangle.” I said through clenched teeth.
The fish shortage had lasted for years, seventeen years to be exact. Every man on the island eventually volunteered to leave the triangle in search of more fish, but they never came back.
“Honey, trust me this is a blessed family and no matter what happens I’ll come home.” He said reassuringly.
“Fine, I don’t like this but I guess we do need some extra money for the bills and stuff” I said “But don’t expect me to like it… Is that the time? I have to go I'm going to be late for school”
In actuality I was going to be fifteen minutes early for school, but the conversation wasn’t heading the way I wanted it to go. So when in doubt run away, that’s what I always say.

On the walk to school I had some serious time to think about what had just passed between my father and me. If I lost my dad to the sea I’d be an orphan and that very idea sent chills through me. I lost my mother years back at birth. The doctors say she had a fever of 120° F, which is abnormal, very abnormal. Shortly after birth she died. My mom left me two things when she died, I only think its one but my dad insist that is two. My father says she left me her good looks, which I totally disagree on. My mother was a vivacious blonde with the most striking blue eyes I’ve ever seen. They were sapphire in the middle and almost to a baby blue around the edges Where as I'm just an ordinary redhead with normal, average every-day brown eyes.
The other thing she left me was a garnet pendant shaped like bird with spread wings. Whenever I touch the pendant its warm for some strange reason and that just makes me think of my mom and what I missed by not having her around.
“Sabryna, its kinda early for school don’t ya think?” I turned around to see that Jan wasn’t far behind me.
“No not really I had some thinking to do, so I decided to do it on my walk.” I replied absent-mindedly. Jan lived three houses away from me and he has the biggest crush on me. I don’t really understand why but I don’t think I could ever see him as anything but a little brother.
“Hey Jan, do you think there is a reason for the constant storm out side the triangle?” I asked still deep in thought.
“Well I think it’s tied into that old legend. Or at least that’s what my grandfather told me.” Jan replied. “You know the one right?”
“I mean I know it but I just I guess I want to hear it again. Maybe it’s just me but something about this storm doesn’t seem right.” I explained. “I mean think about it no storm lasts that long. That storm should have been gone by now. To be honest the clouds should be empty and the sea should be 6 levels higher just from this one storm.”
“Don’t you find it strange that this storm has been raging on like this for 17 years non-stop?” I continued, “That like completely goes against science…”  “I understand you Bri” he reverted back to my child hood nickname to prevent me from getting mad that he cut me off, it didn’t work.
“But its something we can’t control. Like I said before my grandfather says the storm has a lot to do with the old legend and it…” I cut him of not liking where this was going
“You mean the one about the guardian of fire and the guardian of wind that protected the island from intruders?” I asked slipping back in to my original train of thought”
“That very one is the one that I speak of. It states that, when the island was young there were two guardians of the island.” He stated with a spooky shaman voice “The guardians was said to be total opposites. The guardian Fushicho to grace the skies, were as the guardian Ookami to dominate the land. Fushicho was said to be a gigantic bird covered in fire from head to toe. The other guardian, Ookami was said to be a gigantic wolf, invisible to during the day, but a large wolf during the night. Fushicho blessed our people, the villages of the south and the west, with the ability to speak its language. We called it the Language of fire.” Where as the guardian of land blessed the north and east with the Language of the Wind.”
“They protected the island for many years, until the languages were lost among the generations that had past. The guardians needed to communicate with the villagers of Bradina, the island in which we reside, somehow to tell them of incoming danger. So there for they went through drastic transformations.” As he was getting into his story we arrived to school “Damn it, I'm sorry Bri, I guess I’ll just have to tell you the rest after school.” He said hurriedly as he ran to the building. Jan was never one to be late for class. He was always 10 minutes early in the morning, and any other time he could be. I wasn’t too eager to hear the rest of the story. I had never really heard it all before only snippets but I don’t believe in superstitious nonsense like that.
As I approached the building I saw something out of the corner of my eye that didn’t sit to well in my stomach. At first glance it seemed as if my eyes were playing tricks on me, so I turned to get a better look at what I thought I saw. There in the courtyard in front of a tree, barely visible, a guy was standing there. At first I thought it was just  the wind but as I focused on what I was looking at.
His figure began to slowly make sense. The more it made sense to my eyes, the less sense it made to my mind. I could see the wind move around him as if it belonged to him. The wind held him above the ground, he was floating and yet his face held no emotion, it was like floating was no surprise to him. His semi-transparent hair glistening in the sun as if thousand tiny drops of dew had been sprinkled in his hair just so the morning sunlight could make it shine with the ferocity of the moon. As my vision panned out I could see that he was among a group of fellow class mates that were nothing like him, they were normal. “You have to check this out!” I told my self aloud.
I slowly walked towards the crowd of people, being cautious just incase this would be a situation that would lead to my impending doom. I am a notorious thrill seeker so taking my time had me pent up with excitement I wanted to run as fast as I could to this mysterious stranger, mainly just to see if I was crazy or not. As I approached I realized that this mysterious stranger had wings. His wings were long and gorgeous they reminded me of a swan wings, they were clear and as tall as he was, which looked to be about six feet.
When I arrived at the tree his appearance had changed slightly, I could see him now but he was still transparent.
   “Hello” I said tensely
    “Hi” was his cheerful reply
“You must be new here, my name is Sabryna, the president of the student body, and it’s my job to get acquainted with the new students that arrive.” I lied my job was less complicated than that I could never learn all the students names in the school, we had close to two thousand students and I knew that I would never be able to do that but I knew the sophomore class, seeing as we only have 200 students in the sophomore class it’s not that hard to remember those. I held out my hand to allow him a chance to shake it, I’m never too crazy for manners. Once I shook his hand, it was like the wind ran through my whole entire body giving me the chill from hell. “Yes, I am new. My name is Dominick. I'm a transfer student from the North side of the island.” So that was why I hadn’t seen him before. Now the only thing to figure out was if he was dangerous, but before I could the bell rang for school to begin. The crowded hallways made it hard for me to get to class, but it was the ample atmosphere for me to think in. Just what exactly is Dominick? He certainly isn’t human.  I could see right though him, and on top of that he had wings. What type of normal human has wings? “Don’t think about it,” I told my self out loud “The less you think about it the less involved you’ll be” I stopped to my locker to pick up my notebook and headed to class.
